"Hallway Of Smiles"

Here is another image from my Sedona shoot last week.  Be sure to read the post following this one.  I cover the entire session in much greater detail.

Here we had a great location, beautiful model, and wonderful, soft directional light. The first thing I want you to notice is how all the lines lead to our subject.  Draw a line through the tops of the columns on the right and you can see how they lead to our young lady.  Also notice the and how the arches also concentrically lead to the subject.

The lighting here is about as good as it gets – soft, directional light coming in from camera right.  Always be sure to turn the subject’s body away from the light.  Then turn her head past the camera’s axis back to the light being sure to get both of her cheeks illuminated. This should just about guarantee you a very nice portrait.  In this image, I needed to turn the subject’s head a bit more to the light to open up the shadow on her right cheek.  I still like the portrait though.

Camera specs:  Canon 7D fitted with 70-200mm IS lens at 200mm, F3.2 @ 1/250 second.  Enjoy!  -David
