Good Morning Everybody,
You know the first Labor Day was celebrated on September 5, 1882. It was instituted as a national holiday on August 9, 1894 out of respect for the US laborers who were the backbone of our country's growth during that time period [link].
Over the years it has grown into our annual end of summer celebration. The holiday came to mean more than the celebration of labor, even though that is still a significant part of the political spectrum and should be respected and remembered.
But it also means a celebration of family and friends. I can remember, as a kid growing up, it was the time for homemade hand churned ice cream, burgers and hot dogs on the grill, corn on the cob, fresh tomatoes and all the rest of the goodies that made the holiday so memorable for my brothers and sisters and often many cousins, aunts and uncles.
Whatever the celebration means to you - whatever your plans are today, I wish each and every one of you a happy, safe, and loving holiday. Have a great one, enjoy yourself and I'll see everyone back here tomorrow. -David
